We will admit that we think these rotary tools are some of the coolest things around; you can do so many things with them. But once we saw this attachment, we were blown away. If you don't have the money or the space (or the inclination) to set up a whole router table assembly in your home or shop, but you still want to put decorative edges on wood projects, this is absolutely the ticket. It holds the tool under the table, and you mount your shaping bit in it. Turn it on, run your piece against the stationary tool, and your edge is routed. It also works great for small dado grooves with a straight bit. The new table surface is even smoother than before, and it's plenty big enough for small craft projects. It's also a great setup for sanding: Just chuck in a sanding drum and move your workpiece against it. If you've got a rotary tool, get this.

I am using this for model airplane parts, and it does the job for me. It is made out of plastic, and the Dremel holder itself is not very rigid, so one cannot exert too much force and expect precision. Having said that it is infinitely better than trying to do routing without a routing table. Within it's limitations it does well. I have used it on fairly soft woods as well as balsa, and if one is gentle it's fine.

The price on Amazon was excellent. With the caveats above I would recommend it to a friend.

The item is a low cost way to do small routing work. I obtained it to make marionette controls. But, be aware that the item is not usable as a stand-alone router. You must screw it to a wood surface. The attaching of the Dremel tool is not very quickly done, so it is not really practical to keep switching between using the Dremel in the router and as a hand held tool.

I used this for the first time last night. Be careful opening the package - I cut the plastic package open near the top and partly cut through the directions. It took a few minutes to assemble out of the package, but it fit my Dremel fine. It was then simple and fast to to sharpen my two chainsaws. When cutting firewood today, the results were great!

My main concern with this was accuracy of the angle and taking away too much material, as it is high speed and you eyeball the angle.

But who was I kidding. It is very fast and for me, time is more important than then number of chains I have to buy, especially as I seldom use a chainsaw anyway.

My main advise would be to be careful about taking off too much. I kept thinking that I was not getting the edge sharp enough, when in fact I was going way too far and needless shortened the life of my chain. Feeling the edge with my finger was not effective. Looking at the edge with a jeweler's lupe was the best determiner for me to decide that I had it in the right position and that it only needed a couple of passes.

I'm no pro, but I live on a very heavily wooded piece of property, so it's not uncommon for me to have to sharpen my blades every weekend. Owning a nice saw, friends are not shy to ask to borrow it either. So the need for some type of sharpener is necessary. This dremel attachment makes the job so quick and easy, I could never imagine doing it by hand..which I've never done btw.

The guide makes sure you get the correct angle while sharpening, and it only takes a few minutes to sharpen...even 'on the fly' if you have a cordless dremel.

Good buy...I'm thrilled with it.

I bought these to cut nails during some demo work where the recip saw couldn't go. They worked fine for cutting nails. The package says they work best for non ferrous metals, but they seem to be able to cut 10d nails and drywall screws with no problem. I wouldn't use them to cut large pieces of steel, but then again, I wouldn't use the Multi-Max (regardless of blade) to do that either.

The only real con is the cost per blade.

This seems like a pretty good deal on these. If you have used these Dremel blades then you probably know they don't seem to last all that long. They cut well at first and then they start to burn. Make sure you don't hit any plaster or drywall with your new wood blade. At a package price of about 7 bucks a blade you save a bit over buying them individually.

I used the Dremel (Bosch) multimax on a finishing job in a bedroom and two walk-in closets. It made cut-ins under the door casings a dream: no false cuts, no mess, using the new flooring as a leveling guide. When I needed to do some butchery on interior closet walls to straighten bowed 2 x 4 king posts, I removed sections of drywall with the semi-circular drywall cutter: minimum dust, straight cuts, preserving the removed piece of drywall to reposition after the surgery was complete and the wall straightened. To remove old mastic from the flange-sides of access panels, I used the scraper blade: it lifted the old mastic beautifully without gouging or scoring the plastic.

Only problem I encountered was keeping the detent bolt tight: the vibration seemed to shake it loose, especially when used for cutting wood. One must check it frequently for tightness, keeping the Allen wrench at hand.

The replacement cutters are available at Amazon. They seem a bit pricey, but are competitive with other manufacturers' products.

I bought these additional blades to supplement the ones that came with my Dremel Multi-Max that my wife bought me for my June birthday. The tool itslef is outstanding! While not as large and "industrial" as the Rockewell or Fein models (which cost a lot more), for a homeowner who also volunteers as a Habitat builder, the tool is as versatile and effective as it claims. The blades themselves are fine. However, it's obvious at this price they are not made of Titanium! The original combo wood/metal cutter became too dull to use after cutting through a few dozen mid-size nails. It would be nice if the manufaturer offered a more durable (even if more expensive) set of blades. However, I am completely satisfied with the tool and this set of replacement blades.

Ordered these with my refurbished Dremel Multi-Max. Great price and a nice blade for wood or drywall precision cuts. Imagine cutting drywall and almost no dust. You just have drywall particles falling to the floor where you are cutting. Hold a shop vac hose close by and you have no mess at all!

Been using this blade for longer cuts in plywood, use the other wood blades for plunge and corner cuts. One thing 'bad' about these blades is that the attacment area is not indented and you can not use the whole width of the blade for cutting.

I set this up last night, mounted to a piece of wood and clamped to my workbench. Gave it a few hours this morning, making weaving shuttles of soft wood (pine). I agree with the poster who commented that the tool does not sit straight and centered in the table hole, and there is no way provided to adjust that. I might try a toothpick shim. Anyhoo, the table does the basic job for which I bought it, saving me some time on shaping the edges of my shuttles. I had been carving them by hand with a Flexknife.

I would not use this setup for anything large or heavy, or for any job requiring precision shaping. It's just too unstable.

I recently purchased a Dremel workstation. The project of the moment required me to use it as a drill press, with the help of a home-made jig. I found the tool to be excellent, except for a tendency for the bit to wander when the wood grain was uneven. This, even though I used a brad point bit. The fact that the tool holder allows deflection, may cause the serious craftsman to seek a more expensive/precise alternative.

"Misrepresented! Will not allow flex-shaft use." 2010-05-21

Pictures of this Dremel Model 220 inside the Owner's Manual only show use of this device as a flex shaft hanger. That's because it is not possible to use this device as a drill press for a flex shaft. HORRIBLE MISREPRESENTATION IN THE ITEM DESCRIPTION!

Assembly instructions are worse than horrid - they are downright erroneous. It took two of us over two hours to figure out how to put this together. Even the pictures are wrong (for example: showing nuts outside the device when they should be place inside).

I was using my oven door for a flex shaft hanger. Now I still have to use the oven door for a flex shaft hanger because this dratted item WILL NOT WORK as a hanger unless you screw it to a table. No way will it work in any manner with a flex shaft handpiece.

If you think this is an item that will help you, think again. I am going to see if I can send this back.

"How to assemble the Dremel Workstation" 2010-05-07

This "workstation" is not designed to the standards that one expects of Dremel, and the assembly instructions in the manual are wrong. If you follow them, you will not be able to assemble the workstation. They should therefore be ignored. Here are the instructions that I have written and that do work with the workstation that I received.

1. Remove the rubber caps from both ends of the long tube.

2. Pull out the inner tube as far as it will come and twist it to lock it into place.

3. The "square nut (short end first)" is a nut with a non-concentric hole. It is not for the height adjustment lever, as stated in the assembly instructions, but for the angle lock lever.

With the Dremel tool holder (the "press") in horizontal position (NOT in vertical as stated in the instructions), insert this nut with the thinner edge at the bottom, and check visually that it aligns with the hole for the angle lock lever, then insert the angle lock lever and give it the minimum number of turns necessary to capture the nut.

4. Insert the other square nut (the one with the concentric hole) in the back of the blue plastic sleeve, opposite the hole for the height adjustment lever, insert the height adjustment lever and give it the minimum number of turns necessary to capture the nut.

5. Holding onto the height adjustment lever so that it does not slip into the hole, work the thicker tube into the hole, inserting the bottom of the thicker tube into the top of the Dremel tool holder (consult the pictures on the box to determine which this is). It is a very tight fit, but if the two nuts inserted in (3) and (4) are correctly seated, it will go in by dint of wiggling and twisting it. You must expect part of the tube to be marked (damaged!) by the corners of the two captive nuts, which protrude into the space designed to receive the tube.

6. Leave a good 4" (10 cm) of clear thick tube above the Dremel tool holder, and tighten both levers (the height adjustment lever and the angle lock lever) gently.

7. Insert the very large bolt into the outside of the hole in the back of the base and secure it loosely with the corresponding large nut, which goes inside the column (tube) slot. This nut was hexagonal in the kit that I received, not square as indicated in the instructions. A square nut of the right dimensions to prevent it turning would have been much better.

8. Insert the tube (the column), which now has the tool holder on it into the hole in the base and tighten the bolt referred to in (7), above. (The supplied wrench is the wrong size, so you will need to find a suitable spanner to do this.)

9. Slide the "crow's nest" onto the tube from the top, making sure that the small holes for drill bits and tool shanks are uppermost. It will bind sufficiently to be stable when it reaches the thicker tube.

10. Insert the cable holder into the top of the thinner tube.

11. Insert the "hanger wire" into the top of the cable holder. It will be loose, so be careful that it does not fall out if you have to move the workstation, and that it does not swing and put the cable into a dangerous position while working. Perhaps some tape could be wrapped round its vertical shaft, to prevent this.

12. Add the plastic cap to the end of the "hanger wire".

13. Unscrew the plastic cover from the front of the Dremel tool and store it with the tool accessories. (It is a pity that a storage position for this was not designed for the "crow's nest" storage shelf!) Lower the front end of the tool into the cup-shaped front of the press and engage it with the large nut at the bottom, then tighten the nut with the large spanner that is supplied. (Once the tool has engaged with the nut, you may find it helpful to rotate the tool press assembly into horizontal position so that you can see what you are doing while tightening this nut.) The spanner can be stored in the slot at the back of the "crow's nest".

14. Tighten the press in vertical position (or other desired angle) with the plastic wing-nut behind the press.

15. Tighten the angle lock lever.

16. Adjust the height range as desired and lock in place with the height adjustment lever.

17. The base should be secured to a suitable work bench, preferably with four bolts or screws (not supplied!) through the holes at the corners of the base.

18. Inexplicably, the depth gauge is only moulded on the top half of the depth scale, so that less than half of it is usable. Users may wish to make their own depth scale and stick it on the bottom half of the depth scale bar, or make an alternative index point.

I had a lot, and man I mean "A LOT' of assorted grinding stones and polishing wheels that were driving me crazy, seemed like every time I had to use my Dremel I had to change the dang collet, I know, "big deal, you had to wait a minute." but now I attached it to the end of my flex attachment, works great !! switching bits is a breeze, don't have to worry about it not being the right collet or not. I found only one problem, I should have gotten two of them.

Only one thing that is a con..the diameter of the chuck...with a nickle size cutting wheel you will run out of room if the item being cut overhangs the wheel and contacts the chuck. Other than that it holds great and no slippage.

This works okay, but I found that I much prefer a manual file, or better still, a manual file with a bar-mount filing guide. The Dremel tool files quickly, and I found it much too easy to be a little off in my angle when the stone started shaving metal. I bought one of the Oregon bar-mount guides, and I have been very pleased with the result. I still plan to take chains in for professional attention about every fifth sharpening.

I can't understand the average reviews, it would seem they are putting titanium blades on some lawn mowers I guess. For my Toro walk behind, this brought a very damaged blade back from the grave from a year of sweet gum seed and rock edging hacking and did it in 6 minutes and without needing to take it off... do that with a file. I also didn't generate hardly any sparks which I thought was strange since I've seen pictures of this producing a tourch of sparks. I was working on the origianal Toro OEM blade that came with the mower I picked up new 2 years earlier.

i have the dremel lawnmower sharpening tool 675 and i can sharpen my lawnmower blades without having to remove them by simply jacking up the lawnmower high enough to get the tool under it so it fits good on the blade and i can sharpen the blade without taking it off. this saves a lot of time. just remeber to count how many strokes you take on one side of the blade and then repeat the same amount of strokes on the other side. this way you keep the blade in perfect balance. make sure to lower the blade all the way down. this makes it a lot easier before sharpening the blade

Unfortunately this, like many Dremel attachments, is just too "weenie" for the job at hand. My mower blades won't even come close to fitting in the guide slot. Maybe a single push mower blade will? Took off the guide and tried the stone by itself: OK if your blade isn't too nicked, and you have a lot of time. I'm way better off free handing with an angle grinder. I bought my Dremel kit a few years ago, and am consistently disappointed with the tool. I have a LOT tools that I love, but this isn't one of them. I think it'd be good for small craft projects (which I seldom do), but for anything bigger there are better tools for almost any task - including sharpening mower blades. I also got sucked into trying the chainsaw attachment, but I get MUCH better results with a hand file.

This is a good buy if you don't use the EZ-Lock system and you've lost or damaged a lot of your basic tools. If you do a lot of a particular task, like polishing or metal cut off, you're better off buying just the pieces you need.

I leave a Dremel at a shared cottage and last time I opened the case nothing was there but the Dremel and one arbor, so this is what I bought to re-establish the kit. Happy, and I'm locking it up.

Used this to grind down a sticking door, and adjust the size a different door that I was about to hang, with great success. I recommend that you take a few minutes to get a feel for the balance of the tool before getting started or you WILL get a wavy cut. It gets a 4 instead of a 5 because it leaves 'pass marks' that have to be sanded out or neatened up with a block plane.

Would have liked to see a depth adjustment on this plane, but I am very happy with it.

I got this tool as part of a set. i was very excited, i thought i'd never have to use my chisels to clean up the edge of some my wood working projects, boy was i wrong, as others have said it takes a large, uneven bite. I would think that with practice that uneven bite problem could be fixed. however while trying to get it to work right, the blade got warped some how, making it impossible to make a good cut, so i bought a second bit and was extremely careful with it, and it still warped. I have removed this tool from my dremel kit

Not adjustable at all.

I needed this to shave off a little bit of wood backing that was sticking out 1/8" from behind some book shelves I built. The problem is that the planer is only designed to be used in one direction. If you can't use it in the direction they want you to, you are out of luck. Also, you can't change the depth of the cut, so if you don't want that deep or shallow of a cut, you are out of luck there too.

I ended up using the planing bit without the casing, and had better luck doing it that way, but it wasn't perfect like I was hoping the kit would be able to provide.

I would have given it only one star except that I was able to use the planing bit alone for what I needed. That is why two stars.

"Good Idea wrong tool" 2009-03-29

I burned up my brand new XPR400 with this little gadget. I trimmed off maybe 1/4 inch off of 3 doors. By the 3rd door the motor was sounding rough. The motor burned up the next day using it with a cut off wheel. This attachment makes the unit get realllly hot. The tool is turning a really large blade compared to anything else you turn with it. To top that off with the end of the blade isnt supported by anything it just fits in a hole and rides metal on metal. Dremel says the blade is designed to last as long as the attachement 500 BF. I did about 200 and its pretty much ground off (Very old Pine).

I think if you keep the motor well blown out. Dont over tax it and plane a fair amount of 3/4 or less wide your good to go. It really works well. 3 or 4 10 minute sessions on a 1.5 inch door will prove to much for this little tool IMO.

I'm going to see if Dremel will honor the warranty. I will let you all know.

Feel Cheated!

There are many websites that claim that the DREMEL XPR PLANER is compatible with many Dremel Multis . When I recieved the planer the box stated only for the 400 Model! When I contacted Dremel they said that although it might fit it is unsafe to use for only the 400 is fast enough! Most reviews of the 400 say that it's not worth the upgrade. The cost and bother of returning is not worth it. I am stuck with it.

Don't buy unless you are planning to get the 400- it is probably included in most kits.

"Utter garbage" 2009-12-29

I originally bought this attachment to use in helping my son build his Pinewood derby car for Cub Scouts. This is a great tool so long as:

1) You don't need to cut more than, say, 3/4ths of an inch in length. Forget getting anything longer in anything like a straight line. You can't see where you're cutting, the grip is awkward, and it moves all over the place.

2) You don't need to cut anything more than 1/8th of an inch thick. Even then, expect the ultra-thin blade to bind like crazy.

3) You don't need to cut anything hard. Thin plywood? Pegboard? A dowel? Hard plastic? Don't even think about it. It might cut (partially) through some nice Chinese drywall or wet cardboard. Provided it doesn't bind first.

In short, I can't see a use for this attachment after trying and failing to use it in several different projects. Maybe you'll have better luck, but you should definitely think twice before purchasing it.

It's like a toy saw, the construction quality of the housing is good and sometimes it does work quite well. But the tooth of the saw itself went curved with 2 hours of use, and the dremel tool doesn't have enough torque to work except on the easiest surfaces, maybe balsa or very thin wood.

A big deception.

Can't find too many faults with this accessory except for the rattling it makes while in use. But for the price who cares? I originally bought this item for 1 particular situation never thinking I'd use it again, but I've used it a couple more times in the past few months I've owned it. This is not a heavy duty device, but it is extremely useful and should easily last years the way I use it and for its price, I'll buy another when/if I wear it out. There are a significant number of cutoff and cut-into things that I do and this right angle head maks those so much more easily done, and safely done (when wearing a face shield). Just wish I had been looking at what dremel has been doing rather then waiting for my 30 year old dremel to fail before I looked at new accessories. If you are a hobiest and/or into your home repair - get it, you will find uses for it that will undo those aukward angles you do now.

I was very disappointed in this tool. I bought it to cut out a 12" x 6" panel in 1/4" thick fiberglass with 1/16" aluminum on one surface. Since it used standard jig saw blades, I figured it would be up to the task.

The primary reason I used this item rather than a jig saw is that I had a restricted area where the jig saw would not fit.

It made it about half way through the job when it quit working. When I disassembled it, I found it had nylon (or perhaps simply plastic) gears, which were rounded smooth. The manual does caution against running the tool too fast, and I did heed that, but its supposed to be able to cut through 1 1/2" material, so I figured it should have worked for my application. But at any rate, for almost $30, it should have metal gears.

Unless you are cutting thin or soft material, get something heftier, like a pneumatic saw.

I've tried using this saw on multiple occasions with multiple materials, and it's just useless. Originally, I thought it was my own fault, attempting to cut some pretty thick plywood. But I recently attempted to cut plywood that was maybe an 1/8" thick and it took forever. I finally gave up and went to Lowes to buy a HAND coping saw, and it was much faster.

I know it's less than $20 here, but I think you're better off getting a dedicated jigsaw.

I bought this from a local Lowe's when I bought my XPR400 Dremel tool. I was building a guitar amp cabinet actually and just wanted something to make a few straight cuts in some smaller sections of plywood. This seemed adequate based off it's list of features and claimed abilities. I didn't expect it to do as well as a powered jigsaw for example but figured that it would do well enough for my limited needs. I also needed to make 4 rounded corner cuts and since it claimed to be able to do this that convinced me to try it.

The piece assembled easily and with no fuss. It started up and functions like it should mechanically. The problem is that it just lacks the needed amount of power to perform to the standard it claims. I turned it up to it's maximum and it wouldn't even get a quarter of an inch into the plywood before the dremel would start to overheat and slow down. I let it do this twice, the second time it slowed down almost to a stop and the whole unit felt VERY hot to the touch. I decided not to risk it after that as I didn't want to damage the dremel. I was very careful to not cover up the air vents on either piece. I held it with both hands as directed and the wood was very securely clamped down. I also proceeded slowly and tried to let the tool do the work, it would never grab and cut on it's own though. Plywood is not a hard wood and should not be difficult to cut with a jigsaw attachment.

I ended up just going back to Lowe's and buying a powered jigsaw. It cut the plywood like butter, was able to do the rounded corners like I needed and was not that much more expensive than this unit in the store.

The dremel tool works great for it's intended uses, I even used the dremel to smooth out the rounded corners I cut with the jigsaw. This attachment however is very lacking. It may perform well with very thin sheets of wood or metal or perhaps with something like particle board or drywall. I decided to keep it despite the lack of performance because I do have to cut drywall occasionally and so this may come in handy. I will try it out next time to see if it has any uses at all.

I decided to give it two stars because the tool may work well for lighter duty uses that I haven't tried it with yet, but it's definitely not able to do what the packaging information claims. Unless you need something for small projects with light materials save your money and just buy a powered jigsaw, you probably won't have to pay that much more than you would for this!

I have only used this attachment once. It worked fine but when you attach it to the Dremel tool you end up with a tool that is quite high and a little awkward. If you plan to use this attachment a lot, you should first consider a full size jigsaw. Also, this attachment only works with the Dremel 400 XPR. I think you could buy a full size jigsaw for less than buying the 400 XPR with the MultiSaw attachment. However, Dremel makes a small planer for use with the 400 XPR that is quite handy. So, if you were going to buy a 400 XPR, the MultiSaw attachment and the planer would be reasonable additions. Also, I think Dremel made a mistake by making attachments that only work with one model of tools. By doing so, they are missing a big piece of their own market by not designing an attachment that will work with all of their tools. If this attachment worked on all of the Dremel tools I would have rated it with 4 stars.

Do not waste your money on this poorly made plunge router base. I found that the cheap plastic construction allowed the Dremel to wobble thus making accurate cuts, especially straight lines very dificult. When lowering the Dremel using the plunge feature, one side or the other will stick and cause the whole assembly to bind. I threw this base in the trash and bought Stewmac's metal router base that has an air blower accessary which is a great system. You can make clear plastic special purpose bases and attach them easily to the Stewmac. I build guitars so accuracy is important.

Well, I just loved this thing for about a year, then the screw to hold the depth constant, the handle screw, not the depth screw completely failed. Now I can only use it as a plunge router. It will not hold for a set depth anymore. That makes for a very limited tool. I have read the reviews for the alternate "knockoff" version, and am not impressed, so I'll guess I'll have to bite the bullet and buy another one like this. I would gladly pay double for a unit that is built better, because I end up buying 2 instead of having one good one. That one will eventually fail too.

It turns out that this DOES work with the Dremel 10.8 v Li Ion model (AKA, the 800 or 8000 model)! The literature that came with my cordless Dremel claimed that the two don't work together. However, I nervously purchased the plunge router attachment from a Home Depot which was advertising the two as working together and it turns out that they do! I just tried it and the cordless model screwed into the attachment perfectly. I routed several grooves successfully using the plunge router and the included edge guide.

My biggest complaint is the following: The clamps that secure the edge guide are not very secure, so the guide slowly slipped without my realizing it, resulting in about a 1-2 mm difference in the location of the groove I was cutting between start and finish on one piece of wood. Once I knew that this was I risk, I was just very careful to tighten all the clamps as much as I possibly could and it didn't happen again.

It would also be nice to have an easier method of adjusting and measuring the depth and distance along the edge guide without having to use external measurement tools.

Make sure you take note of the depth lock on the handle. It's very useful for locking in a depth without having to hold down the router against the springs.

Other than that, it works as I would expect it to and I'm pleased with my purchase. Although I have the router bit collection, I so far have only used the attachment with one of the high speed carving bits to make a pencil thin decorative groove in the edge of a picture frame. I was only using basswood, so I can't say how it would stand up to a more strenuous challenge.

This attachment sounded perfect for the model making and dolls' house building I want to do. Thought I'd be able to do some nice box joints with an appropriate jig. Some problems - (1) you can't use standard screw in guide bushings, (2) even if you could get the bit centered on the base, it moves when you cut, so you get wiggly cuts, even with the edge guide (this is presumably why they don't give you guide bushings with any kind of tolerance).

Save you money towards a real router.

If you have a real Dremel, even a bettery powered one, this is a great addition. It's powered by a small internal generator (that doesn't put any load on the tool) and gives you two white LED lights right next to your work. It screws on and off so you can remove it when you're using the grout tool or the chain saw sharperner (it goes on the same threads), but mine stays on 90 % of the time. It gets brighter the faster the shaft spins, but that's the only negative.

I bought it to remove grout between my bathroom tiles. I broke one bit right away, while I got the hang of how to use the tool. Second bit cut fine, but it was hard to maintain a straight line. The concentration, not to mention the fine dust it produces, made me go to Lowes and buy an old fashion manual grout scraper. If you think you'll do the whole bathroom with this tool, forget it - it's not gonna happen.

The bit itself is decent, but the nature of this (bathroom) job causes it to break too easy. I'll probably use it for something else.

I started to use these bits for removing the grout on the tile above the bathtub. The bit worked fine for awhile, then it broke. I purchased several more of the 1/16" bit and even tried the larger one. They heat up and break. They are not cheap to replace. I found better bits at leakyshower.com for a fraction of the price. The dremel bits work, yet are not worth the cost. Maybe next time I'll just scape out the grout by hand.

I had to replace the original chuck on my Dremmel because it broke,I bought this chuck and it works better than the original chuck and it is easy to install,but be careful starting it on the threaded shaft not to cross thread it.Just install bit into chuck and turn the chuck clockwise until the bit is tight,to remove just turn chuck counter clockwise to remove the bit.

This router table is really nice. Everything is nice about this table. I made nice big table from this little table. If you looking to route big pieces this is not the right table for you, but you can make something like I did. I made custom fit and now I can run bigger pieces of wood. This table fits 300 dremel with no problem I wish they made the holder little stronger for the dremel. Other then this I like it and this is nice little table that you can make it nice and big.

I wish I didn't have to make such a vicious statement, but this thing really is poorly-constructed junk. The tool mount flexes too much to guarantee any accuracy in your work. What's worse, on the one I had the tool didn't even mount centered in the hole - preventing me from ever using any wide router or sanding bits without damaging the plastic of the table itself.

If there were an adjustment - a pair of slots of some sort - to which I could center the tool properly, I would have kept the table and given two or three stars. At least it would have been somewhat useful to me. I just don't see how a plastic molded part can get this wrong, and for that I returned it.

I don't expect too much from a rotary tool system like this, the quality is cheap and you get what you pay for - but this is ridiculous.

The table on this molded plastic device is warped and does not do what you imagine it will with any kind of acuracy. I tried it with polystyrene strip stock and it ruined it. I feel its useless in its present form, but I am going to try to put on some kind on metal top on the working surface, because, as a hobbiest I do have many possible uses for such a tool.

I ordered the Dremel 231 shaper/router and received it almost overnight. That's good. I rushed to my shop and, following the instructions in the accompanying manual immediately realized it doesn't go together as described. That's bad. Unfortunately this happened on a Saturday morning and I had to wait for Dremel's customer service department to open Monday morning.

Monday morning I called and got a nice lady named Mary on the phone. She explained to me Dremel had changed the method of attaching the tool to the table and had not updated the instructions, and they had received hundreds of call just like mine. She walked me thru the new method and, magical presto, it worked! Thank you Mary.

I immediately went to work using the round over bit. It does create a lot of sawdust, but the end product is fast and perfect. The sawdust does drop onto (and into) the tool mechanism so I am careful to use compressed air to remove it regularly.

Fast shipping. I've used the bits to cut small channels so far. They work well as long you only try to cut a small depth. I found that for harder woods about 1/16 inch at time works well.

At first I didn't really care for this sharpener. I had a difficult time running the tool over the shovel or mower blade. Now I gently secure the dremel in a vice and then pull the blade along the stationary dremel. Works very nicely doing for straight blades when used like that. I have much better luck running the dremel at high RPM for this.

I'll still use a file for curved shovels and trowels though.

For under $10, I figured there was no harm in trying this tool. It *looks* like a great idea and simple to use, however, it didn't work very well for me.

I have a push mower and a riding mower, so I started with the push mower's blade first. It's a 20" Sears mower with a 'mulching' blade. The problem I had with the tool is that it's very hard to slide across the blade; perhaps the blade on my lawnmower was too thick for the tool or the small amount of grass on the blade provided too much friction.

After struggling quite a bit to get the tool to move across the blade, I eventually got the blade slightly sharp, but the sharpening stone is already quite warn... there's no way I'll be able to do the three blades on my riding mower.

I was hoping to avoid using the good 'old file method to sharpen the blades, but I think that might actually be the easier method. The tool is well made and easy to install, but it's a little harder to use than one might think.

there's not much to the package . . . just a few parts. I would have made the chain holder out of metal rather than plastic and I would have provided a second grinding stone. When the first wears down, you'll need to buy an entire new kit. But it reconditions the chain as promised.

I have my chains sharpened professionally when they begin to cut crooked due to uneven wear. Otherwise, I touch them myself as soon as they fail to cut uniform shavings. This usually occurs after about an hour of cutting hardwoods or two hours of softwoods. If the bar gets into the dirt or you hit a nail you will be sharpening even sooner. You can either carry several chains to get you through the day or be prepared to touch them up on the bar.

I prefer to touch up my own chains because the saw shops usually take off about 2MM of steel when they sharpen. At that rate, a chain does not last very long. If you touch up your own chains when they first begin to dull, you will only take off a few thousandths of an inch.

This tool works well if you gauge the grinder off of the tooth as described in some of the other posts. The problem is powering the grinder while in the field. Cordless grinders don't hold a charge very long so you need to carry extra batteries. Corded grinders need a place to be plugged in. Either solution limits you mobility.

I prefer the "Oregon" brand file and gauge. No electricity required and it easily goes in your thigh pocket or field kit. Only one or two strokes per tooth needed for a touch-up and you are back to work. The gauge make it easy for even a neophyte to maintain proper tooth shape and depth.

I'm using it for drilling tiny (0.6mm) holes in PCBs. I manage to drill them very precisely, no more than 0.1mm offset just by hand, and without and optical devices. Compared to an integral drill press, this one is very cheap and light, but nevertheless rigid and comfortable.

BTW, I'm using a Dremel clone, and before buying I was concerned whether this would fit. The answer is that the attachment is done by the threaded nose of the tool. If yours has the same threading, you should have no problems.

The assembly of this tool took no more than 30 minutes which included reading the included manual.

The use if this tool is mostly intuitive and easy to setup and use. I have used the work station 2 or 3 times since I received it last month Jan 2010. It works great. I would highly recommend this product.

I love it's multi purpose features.

The fact alone that it can hold my heavy rotary tool so I can use the flex shaft easier makes me give this workstation five stars.

I haven't used it as an actual drill press yet, but I've used it for all the other uses listed and shown.

I have also used it as a reverse router table. Be careful if you use it this way too, because the bit is a little more exposed to your hands compared to a normal router table. But I love that I can see what the router bit is doing to the top of the piece of wood I am working on. Just set the rotary tool to the depth you want and rout away!

I disagree with Kandoro. He's obviously not read the post by J. Blackthorne clearly .. I received my unit last week and was definitely perplexed about the fact that my 395 (apparently supported by the unit) was way too small. There were no real mounting brackets to hold the unit firmly in place other than the coupling nut at the bottom. There has to be an adapter .. otherwise this is either bad engineering or bad marketing.

I am not really going to use it for anything high-precision but I do need tight enough tolerance for drilling holes close to each other. I cannot use the 220-01 station reliably .. intend to modify it to hold my dremel tool. And if I can't .. I'm returning it.
